Preparing a 300 sq. ft. + Garden Bed with this kit:
Be sure to prepare the soil with good tilling using worm casings, compost, and some peat for a great nutrient-rich home for your new seeds to grow.
Plant the Blue Lake Bush beans in full sun. Three beans together spaced about 30" apart. That would give you about seven good bean bushes in your first row or two, depending on bed length.
Do the same for the pole beans (6-7ft tall poles) but space them about 18-20" apart. Orient the row of pole beans East to West. The South side of this bed will receive full sun, but the North side will have some afternoon shade because of the pole bean plants. This is perfect because you will want to plant your Kale, Collards, and Spinach on the North Side of this bed. The shade will help keep the leafy greens from wilting in the afternoon heat.
Cucumbers and squash prefer small mounds of 2-3 seeds each mound. They can be planted in the same bed as each other but leave plenty of space for the vines to run. 24"-36" between mounds.
Corn plant 10-12" apart in a 6ft square pattern. This will help keep the wind from blowing them over. Also, in this bed, you can plant a row of peas and place the turnips on one side and the beets on the other. These root veggies will love the free nitrogen the Pea plants will add to the soil. If you have the room next to the corn plant, the Lima or Tenderette beans there, more nitrogen-fixing for the corn!
All in all, that will give you a nice little manageable garden.
NOTE: These seeds come packaged as shown in re-closable Mylar for use now or long-term storage.
